This past week I have been working in the living room with the great people of Lev Kaupas in Amsterdam, and I could not have found a better place. If you are in the area and looking for a space, you might be considering The Hub. You’ve heard about them popping up in cities all over the world, but don’t be fooled. While it may have a big fancy office and get a lot of press, in addition to being expensive there is something corporate about it, and that’s not what you want in a coworking space, is it? Lev Kaupas is where you want to be! You can find it near Oosterpark, a few kilometers south of the city center at Atlantisplein 1, just about a 10 minute travel by bike. When you arrive at the building head around back where you’ll find an outdoor Café and Bar, along with a music studio on the ground level. Walk inside and head up to the 4th floor. You will immediately be welcomed by large windows covered in graffiti welcoming everyone, “Come inside, just ring the bell”. The space is quite large and has several offices which are primarily occupied by “ambassadors”, and “senior members”. Basically people who want/need more space have an option to pay more and can rent a private office in the space (if one is available). Coworking happens in the Living Room. The best thing about Lev Kaupas is the people. It is more than just a workspace, it’s a community, and everyone is welcome. This Wednesday everyone went out to a dinner and then to PechaKucha, which is an entertaining series of short presentations (with free beer). Tonight there will be a BBQ outside at Lev Kaupas in celebration of QueensDay. Also, as of right now since my Airbnb rental is up, I was generously invited to couchsurf with a new friend that I met here. If you’re ever in Amsterdam, check it out. Just ring the bell.
